A Constitutional Republic, Not A Democracy

This should not be news, but considering today’s confusion in the use of the term “democracy”, it doesn’t hurt to revisit an almost 60 year old video where FBI agent Dan Smoot states, among other things, that “democracy inevitably degenerates into dictatorship”.

Pachyderm Meeting – February 27

The speaker for this meeting will be Montana HD 13 Representative Linda Reksten who is running again this year.  Below is a little bit of information about Representative Reksten!

We hope to see a everyone at the meeting to hear what Linda has to say.

Linda Reksten is an American politician from Montana. She is a Republican member of the Montana House of Representatives. In 2024 she was elected to the 13th district which covers the Polson area.[1] Previously she was elected to the 12th district in 2020 and 2022.[2][3]

Reksten first ran for election in 2020, defeating Gerry Browning.[4] She took the seat of Greg Hertz who had reached his term limit. In 2022 she faced challenger Sterling Laudon, an attorney in Polson.[5] She won with 62% of the vote.[6]

Due to redistricting following the US census Reksten ran for District 13 in the 2024 elections.[7] The Democratic candidate, Shirley Azzopardi, also spent her career as an educator.[8] Reksten won 61% of the vote, securing her third term in the House of Representatives.[9] She was appointed chair to the House Education Committee.[1]

Reksten worked for more than 30 years in education prior to her election.[10] She was a teacher, principal, and Superintendent of Schools.[11] She also was a college professor at Point Loma Nazarene University.[12] Reksten published two books with Corwin Press.[12]

Venue: 25 Regatta Rd, Polson. Time: 12 noon.

Melania, the movie – February 28

You are invited to see Melania, a documentary of the life of the First Lady,

– a one-time showing at Showboat Stadium 6 in Polson, MT on Feb. 28th (Saturday) at 1 pm.

Tickets are $7.25.

Bring a friend! Check for the opportunity to buy tickets in advance through the Showboat website HERE. Should be available soon!

Charles Garner, author of “The Canary in the Coal Mine” about encouraging the religious right to vote their beliefs instead of staying away from the polls, has written two more books: “Battle for the Republic” and “Called to Stand“. These books should be in the hands of every county pastor as well! Charles is planning on attending our Melania Movie showing on Feb. 28th to meet the attendees and to help us promote the books ($10 each).  He might even sign them!

Amazon Marketing Text for the Melania movie:

“Amazon MGM Studios’ film MELANIA offers unprecedented access to the 20 days leading up to the 2025 Presidential Inauguration — through the eyes of the First Lady herself. Step inside Melania Trump’s world as she orchestrates inauguration plans, navigates the complexities of the White House transition, and moves her family back to the Nation’s Capital.   With exclusive footage capturing critical meetings, private conversations, and never-before-seen environments, MELANIA showcases Mrs. Trump’s return to one of the world’s most powerful roles.”

LCRW – March 2

Venue: New Transit Building in SW Ronan, 528 Main St. Early start this time! The tour of the facility begins at 11 am. The topic of the presentation will be Medicare 101.
We will likely have a chance to recap our views on the Melania movie as well! (see above)
The Agenda for the meeting is posted under ‘Republican Women’s Club’.
Chili and cornbread provided but you may bring whatever else you would like.

In case you missed it:

The Pachyderm Club has already given you the opportunity to learn what midterm candidates stand for. And more is coming up!

At the next meeting, Linda Reksten, incumbent representative for HD 13, will speak on her work in Helena.

The role of the judiciary as seen by District Court Judge John Mercer

On January 23, 2026, Pachyderm attendees were pondering the role of the judiciary with the help of Judge John Mercer who has experienced many ends of the spectrum of government work. John Mercer emphasized the importance of judges restraining their power. If they allow politics to be brought into their decisions, they WILL lose respect. Judges should not be biased in their decisions.

John Mercer is going to run in 2026 in order to finish the four years remaining on Judge Cotter’s term.

Great update by County Attorney Lapotka

The meeting minutes from the December 12 presentation is now available under “Who We Are/Pachyderm Club”. For example, great news about signature gathering for ballot initiatives; “There is a new legal requirement for signature gatherers – be aware for the upcoming election.  The signature gatherers are required to wear name badges and state who is paying them to collect signatures!”

Judge Wilson, a true Constitutional Conservative, outlined his thoughts on what is happening in the judiciary and what he wants to do to ensure it does what the Constitution intends for it to do. Read the meeting minutes under “Who We Are/Pachyderm Club”.

ACTION! ACTION! ACTION!

Representative government works best when you have a relationship with the people who represent you. After all, they can’t represent you unless they know who you are and what you care about. Here’s a simple way to tell them.

Please write a ‘Thank You’ note to your elected representatives and senators at the state and federal level. Welcome them to the new legislative session, it introduces you as their constituent, lets them know you are a Christian, reminds them of the biblical values you embrace, and pledges your prayer support during their term.
