LCRCC plenary – Feb 4
NGO and Out-of-State Money Briefing
Tracy Sharp, the Chair, has been asked to give the briefing he has with regard to “Influence Networks” at the plenary, so that will be on the Agenda. It will take up most of the meeting time, so little else will be handled businesswise (but filling precinct seats will be because the filing deadline approaches).
Venue: Fire Hall at 25 Regatta Rd in Polson, meeting starts at 6:30. If you are new to the Lake County Republican activities, arrive early to meet with people who can help get you started!

The Pachyderms will meet as usual at the Fire Hall, 25 Regatta Rd in Polson at 12 noon. Speaker for this meeting is Finley Warden, who will tell us about his investigation into the Teachers Union and about his campaign for a seat to represent Montana House District 13.

About Finley:
Finley is a sixth-generation Montanan and a Christian conservative running for the Montana House of Representatives in District 13. He was raised by his parents, Chris and Lori, alongside his younger brother, Ash, in a home grounded in hard work, faith, freedom, and patriotism. His family has deep roots across Montana and in Polson, where his grandparents first came in the 1960s. Growing up in Montana and around Flathead Lake shaped who he is and how he sees the Montana way of life. Polson is his home, and he am committed to protecting the personal responsibility, neighborly spirit, and Montana values that define it.
Finley has spent the past four years working in Republican politics across Western Montana. That work included helping elect conservative candidates, assisting with constituent services, and advocating for policies that reflect the priorities of Montana families. Through this experience, he has learned how state government directly affects everyday life and why strong, principled representation matters, especially for rural communities that are too often overlooked.
His time in Montana’s public schools sparked an early interest in public policy. He saw how ideological agendas and poor decision making can weaken education and harm Montana families. That experience drove him to get involved at the legislative level. During the last two Legislative Sessions, he served as a citizen advocate helping shape both the Montana Republican Party Platform and Montana law. He worked with lawmakers and grassroots leaders to advance conservative priorities, including advocating for legislation focused on lowering the state income tax, expanding educational opportunities, and fighting back against radical left-wing ideology.

In case you missed it:
The role of the judiciary as seen by District Court Judge John Mercer

On January 23, 2026, Pachyderm attendees were pondering the role of the judiciary with the help of Judge John Mercer who has experienced many ends of the spectrum of government work. John Mercer emphasized the importance of judges restraining their power. If they allow politics to be brought into their decisions, they WILL lose respect. Judges should not be biased in their decisions.
John Mercer is going to run in 2026 in order to finish the four years remaining on Judge Cotter’s term.
Great update by County Attorney Lapotka
The meeting minutes from the December 12 presentation is now available under “Who We Are/Pachyderm Club”. For example, great news about signature gathering for ballot initiatives; “There is a new legal requirement for signature gatherers – be aware for the upcoming election. The signature gatherers are required to wear name badges and state who is paying them to collect signatures!”
